Recap and clues from The Walking Dead Season 4 Finale

It’s been a WHOLE week since the season finale of The Walking Dead aired and I’m still suffering post-WD syndrome, so to get a fix I rewatched the season finale and found some clues that I missed the first time around since I was left pretty much with my mouth open after Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) bit Joe on the neck and ripped Joe’s throat out. SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t watched the season finale of TWD, which you either must be out of your mind or been on vacation somewhere really warm, then stop reading now and go back to your regular program and put on the season finale of TWD!

First clue: Rick (pre-throat biter) is showing Carl and Michonne how to trap an innocent bunny by building a walking path where the animal will most likely walk though and be snatched by Rick’s handy trap. Most of the second half of season 4 has been a trap set by the people at Terminus posting maps in various locations leading to Terminus. The separated groups have all seen the signs and believe the sign of “Those who arrive, survive” or at least believe that the others would have headed in that direction for sanctuary if they survived the Governor’s attack. In the penultimate episode, we saw Glen and Maggie and Co. walking into Terminus with Mary greeting them with some grilled meat. Yum! What looked like an insignificant moment of survival tip by Rick was foreshadowing the trap set up by the Termites.

Second clue: the flashbacks to the prison pre-Governor’s attack were a peaceful contrast to the gruesome reality of Rick sitting in a dazed shock covered in blood.  In the flashbacks, Hershel is trying to show Rick to be a farmer so that in return Rick can show Carl he can do more than just killing. At one point the beloved and missed Hershel tells Rick that “It could be like this all the time.” Unfortunately, it can’t be as  we see Joe and his merry men show up in the middle of the night to kill Rick, Michonne and Carl. This is when Rick goes all cannibal (hint!) on Joe and rips his throat out. You can’t blame the guy for doing it. He’s in a post-apocalyptic zombie world and he’s watching his son get molested by a fat guy and is just trying to survive. Can you then blame the people at Terminus for doing what they do since they are just trying to survive as well?

Third clue: the backpack, the poncho, the riot gear and the watch. After sneaking into Terminus and meeting Gareth, Mary is offering Rick and the rest of the gang some food but Rick notices the watch that Alex is wearing and shit gets real! Rick recognized those belongings to his friends and wants to know where they got it from. Gareth then orders his band of merry men to shoot at Rick but it seems these rooftop men are bad shooters since they are missing every shot. But the group is just being led to a TRAP through a maze in this big factory-like building, going from one creepy room to the next. In one warehouse, the room is lit with candles and phrases written all over like “Never Again,”  “Never Trust,” and “We First, Always.”  As the group is running, they run past a cage filled with bones with meat still on them. Finally, the group is lead into the train car. Mouse trap! (Aside: if Rick doesn’t trust Terminus before going in, why would the four of them all go in at the same time? Wouldn’t be practical to say have 2 people stay behind? End of aside)

Fourth clue: powder milk. When Rick is ordered first to go stand by the train car, he looks down and sees ripped cartons of powdered milk. No biggie, right? Or could this be, I don’t know, baby Judith’s milk formula?! Or could it be the food the Termites are giving the prisoners to fatten them up? Inside the car, Rick sees Glen and Maggie and Co. The gang is finally back together! Almost, we are still missing Carol and Tyrese but they could be in one of those train cars we heard people yelling from and Beth is still MIA or is she the grilled meat Mary was so kindly serving?

As you, no doubt gathered, the people at Terminus are not what they seem and if you are familiar with The Walking Dead comic books, you know these people are not vegetarians. TWD left me wanting more especially after Rick delivers the line “They’re screwing with the wrong people.”  Badass Rick is back! What other clues or tidbits did you find after the third or fourth watch of the season finale? And what will you do on Sunday’s with no WD on? I’ll be ironing my clothes…

Baby Judith not dead, Carol returns on The Walking Dead

Back in December when the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead aired, the show left us wondering what had happened to the survivors of the prison. There was one particular character that had left us, well at least me in particular, wondering what had happened to her: baby Judith. I had some theories of what could have happened and I was hoping that the mid-season opener was going to answer it but alas it did not until this Sunday’s episode of “Inmates.”

The last image we saw of baby Judith, aka Little Ass Kicker, was the bloody empty car seat she was being carried on by the little kids. I had three theories: one, Carol had taken her;  two, Michonne saved her with her bad ass katana; and three, she crawled away to safety. Sadly, neither of my theories were correct. I was a little bit bummed but, hey, can’t always get them right. So it turns out baby Judith was with Tyrese. This was a little twist but some people did point out that while he was running he was carrying something. Although when I re-watched it, I couldn’t really tell.

I was really hoping for my Michonne theory to be correct because as the mid-season opener showed us in Michonne’s trippy-flashback dream she had a baby pre-walker world. Unfortunately, the only thing she was carrying was her katana and two pet walkers – although still very bad ass of her. My third theory was far off but anything can happen in television.

My Carol theory wasn’t too far off as she did show up to save Mika and Lizzie from emanate death by walkers, and she had been following them since the prison attack. I threw my hands in the air when Carol 2.0 re-appeared as she was wrongfully banished from the group by Rick for killing two people (who I might add were sick and posed a threat to the prison surviving group). Rick, of course, didn’t see it this way.

I did point out that Tyrese and Carol would end up together. As you might recall, one of the people Carol offed was a woman whom Tyrese had feelings for, and he doesn’t yet know Carol was behind the death of his former love interest. For us viewers it has been months when we last saw these characters, but in Dead it has only been a few days. When asked by Tyrese where she had been, she lies as she isn’t ready to tell him tell him what she’s done. She tells him instead she had been out searching for food and returned when the prison being attacked, and she had been tracking him and the girls. Clearly, this wasn’t moment to come clean about what she had done. I’d have to agree with her. It will be interesting to see if she does tell him and how he will react to the news.

“Inmates” was a great episode finally putting together the pieces of what happened to the remaining survivors from the prison. A quick recap: Beth and Daryl ended up together – possible romance? Maggie, Sasha and Bob were in the woods and Maggie went in search of her husband, Glen. Glen was in the prison and ended up saving former Governor supporter, Tara. Six more episodes remain of season 4 and with the end introducing three more new characters it will be interesting to see if the separated group will reunite.

What happened to baby Judith on The Walking Dead?

Sunday night’s episode of “The Walking Dead” was, in one word, EPIC. It contained everything it had been building up since the third season.  It was the war between Rick and his people and The Governor and his new crew – plus a tank. During the entire hour, I was shaking and nervous for the beloved characters. Who would die? Who would survive? It was driving me a little bananas but ultimately that is what a good show is supposed to do.  It needs to keep the viewer at the edge of their seats. But a show where zombies rule the world, life is uncertain for all these characters. No one is safe, and that was especially evident in “Too Far Gone.”

Meghan, The Governor and the beloved Hershel were all killed in last night’s episode. Everyone was shocked in the way Hershel was beheaded violently by the Governor. It was a brutal blow to the prison gang. Hershel had become the moral compass of the show and all the blogs this morning were talking about his death. I, however, saw the possible death or disappearance of baby Judith as the most shocking. Judith was just a baby and more importantly, she represented hope of a possible new beginning and the possibility of the human race to continue in a post-zombie apocalypse world.

Since we really only got to see a car seat full of blood and no real proof that she was eaten by walkers, below are my theories of what could have happened to her.

  • Carol to the rescue — Since we haven’t seen Carol after her banishment by Rick for killing two people, I think she came in and saved Judith. I believe Carol stuck around to take Lizzie and Mika. She had made a promise to take care of them after their father received a few bites from the walkers. With all the chaos going on, it could have been an easy for Carol to sneak in and save her. Not only that, but I think she will be with the other children that were left behind with Tyrese. I think Carol and Tyrese will end up together and become BFFs. Tyrese doesn’t yet know she is the killer of his girlfriend. It would make for an interesting storyline to see these two character interact. (Side note theory: Could it be Carol driving the bus?)

  • Michonne picked her up with her katana – After slicing her katana through the Governor’s body, Michonne was not seen again.  She could have heard Little Ass Kicker crying underneath all the gun fire and explosions. She was close to all the action. At the beginning of the season, Michonne had a sweet little moment with Judith as she held her. My theory on that is that she had a child of her own pre-walkers? It would make for a dynamic story arc for Michonne to be taking care of a child as opposed to her hard demeanor she carries.
  • Little Ass Kicker crawled away – Okay, so this theory might be a little far-fetched but she was around the age of crawling and maybe she crawled back into the prison for safety? Her given name is Little Ass Kicker! She could totally be kicking walker ass on her way back into the prison. I am guessing Daryl is like her godfather and he’s been teaching her some arching moves. Just saying.

So what is your theory of what happened to Little Ass Kicker aka Judith? Is she really dead? Could she have crawled away? Will she have her own story line for the mid-season opener?
